Damaged molars can often be filled with filling materials such as amalgam or composite, but these materials have limitations in terms of strength, wear resistance, color (as with amalgam), and color fastness. When molars are too damaged by fracture or caries, there is often too little tooth material left to cover them with a crown, but too much to fill with filling material. In this case, a ceramic inlay or onlay is the perfect solution.
An inlay or onlay is a custom-made, fully ceramic restoration that restores the function and aesthetics of the tooth. Due to the glossy and natural properties of feldspathic ceramic, ceramic inlays integrate perfectly with the surrounding tooth tissue and are hardly distinguishable from real teeth. They not only offer aesthetic benefits, but also excellent strength and durability, making them an ideal solution for restoring damaged molars.
Many patients choose to have their amalgam fillings removed for aesthetic or health reasons, and a ceramic inlay or onlay is often the best replacement option.
PROCEDURE:
- Assessment and Preparation: The dentist assesses the situation and prepares the teeth by grinding them if necessary. This is done carefully to create the right space for the inlay or onlay.
- Dental Impressions: After preparation, the dentist takes detailed dental impressions and sends them to our dental laboratory.
- Color Analysis: The patient can visit the laboratory for a professional digital mouth photo and a comprehensive color analysis, or the dentist can perform a color analysis. This ensures that the inlay or onlay perfectly matches the natural color of the teeth.
- Customization and Placement: Using the collected data, we create artisanal ceramic inlays and onlays that precisely match the shape and color of the original tooth. After fabrication, they are placed accurately for a strong, durable, and aesthetic result.
